The real estate industry has a gender gap - and these women are closing it
The real estate industry is no stranger to strong, capable women. Yet, leadership roles? Sales positions? Business ownership? Those are still largely male-dominated. But not for long.
As International Women’s Day (IWD) approaches, Leading Ladies of Real Estate is taking charge, hosting nationwide events to spotlight successful women in the field and inspire others to climb the ladder.
Visibility is power
"You can’t be what you can’t see," says Natalie Hortz, Ray White’s head of organisational development and co-organiser of Leading Ladies.
It’s not just about celebrating the success stories—it’s about showing the real journey.
- The career shifts.
- The challenges of balancing work and parenthood.
- The steps it takes to break into sales, business ownership, and leadership.
This movement isn’t just talk; it’s action.
Changing the narrative in real estate
While women make up half the real estate workforce, many remain in operations, property management, and admin roles—not necessarily by choice, but due to traditional industry norms.
Leading Ladies is flipping the script, creating opportunities, mentorships, and community support to help women confidently step into higher-level roles.
Since launching in 2021, this grassroots initiative has grown into an industry-wide movement with events in major cities and regional hubs like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Townsville, and Mackay.
A network of support, not just another event
What sets these events apart? It’s not about brands, stats, or corporate agendas—it’s about real women lifting each other up.
This year’s theme, ‘Recharge & Reset’, focuses on mental health, resilience, and high performance in an industry known for long hours and high stress.
“We start the year energized, but by March, many are already in a slump,” Hortz explains.
“This is about giving women the tools to thrive, not just survive.”
More than a moment - a movement
Success isn’t just measured by event attendance but by the connections made and career shifts inspired.
"If a woman is the only female in her office, we want her to know—she’s not alone," Hortz says.
The long-term vision? More women leading, selling, and owning their own businesses.
“In 10 years, I’d love to see more women in leadership roles,” Hortz says. “That’s the ultimate goal.”
